Coverage provided by Shipsurance covers freight from all risks of physical loss or damage from an external cause (subject to exclusions) while in transit.
TDV = Total Declared Value. This includes your retail shipping charges, if declared for coverage.
Insurance Limits
- Coverage Limits
- $15,000.00 per package via DHL, FedEx, Freight, and UPS.
- $1,000.00 per package via the United States Postal Service (USPS).
- Sub-limits
- $5,000.00 per package for Jewelry (includes necklaces, earrings, watches, rings, bracelets, broaches, etc).
- We provide coverage for jewelry above this amount from a trusted jewelry/ artwork insurer.
- $2,500.00 per shipment of cell phones or household goods.
You can contact us for exceptions on packages valued above these limits, as well.
Accounts, bills, currency, cash in transit, evidence of debt, checks, money orders, COD payments, coins (collectible coins are not excluded), securities and other negotiable papers, tickets, deeds, notes, gift cards, manuscripts, documents, neon items, hazardous material (per UPS Hazardous Materials List), LCD monitors or screens, televisions (including LCD, plasma, CRT, projection, and similar), perishable cargo or similar property, eggs, any stone or ceramic slabs, automobiles, motorcycles, live animals, flowers, plants, seeds, cigarettes/cigars, cotton, tobacco, windows, plate glass, stained glass, and float glass.
Shipments sent to Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Burma, Congo, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), Liberia, Nigeria, North Korea, Paraguay,
Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela.
Any location that would be in violation of any U.S. economic or trade sanctions including OFAC Restricted Countries. For shipments to Russian and other Commonwealth of Independent States countries (includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan) coverage ceases upon touchdown of the aircraft at the airport of destination or upon discharge from the overseas vessel at the destination discharge port.
Mechanical and Electrical Derangement – Loss of or damage due to mechanical, electrical, or electronic derangement unless there is evidence of external damage to the insured item or its packaging. Data files and installed computer programs are not covered for erasure, corruption, or loss.
Store-Packed / Customer-Packed
- Items packaged by the store are covered for loss AND damage
- Items that are NOT packed or inspected by the insured (customer packed) are covered for loss AND damage if the TDV is under $500.00.
- Items valued at $500.00 and over that are customer packed or not inspected for verification of declared content(s) and sufficient packaging by the insured, are not covered.
Jewelry
- Jewelry (includes necklaces, earrings, watches, rings, bracelets, broaches, etc) with a TDV in excess of $5,000.00 per parcel, $25,000.00 per shipment are excluded from coverage.
Cell Phones
- With a TDV in excess of $2,500.00 per shipment/load are excluded from coverage.
Household Goods & Personal Effects
- With a TDV in excess of $2,500.00 per shipment/load are excluded from coverage.
United States Postal Service shipments
- Insured for both loss and damage, if sent via a traceable service such as Delivery Confirmation, Signature Confirmation, Certified Mail, Express Mail, or Global Express Mail.
- International USPS shipments are covered if shipped via Express Mail, only.
- $1,000.00 limit of coverage per package.
General Policies
- Parcels with a total declared value of $1,000.00 or more must be sent with the Direct Signature Confirmation service (must be signed for at delivery).
Valuation
- Coverage is for Actual Cash Value (ACV) which includes depreciation for used goods. Make sure to ask your customers if they have a recent receipt or other proof of value when insuring a package. In no event will a claim be paid for an amount greater than the amount declared for coverage.
Claims
- The Insured or the consignee must retain all packaging material and damaged goods in its original form as received. Packaging and damaged goods should not be disposed of or released to the shipping carrier before a claim is completed as photographs will be required. Failure to comply can result in the denial of the claim due to insufficient packing.
- Concealed Damage – Allows for the discovery of loss or damage up to 15 days after final delivery. The loss is deemed to have possibly occurred during the insured transit. Discovery of loss or damage occurring 16 days or later after final delivery is deemed to have occurred while the shipment was NOT in transit, and therefore, is not covered.
- Shipments sent via DHL, FedEx, UPS, or common carrier (Freight):
- Complete claim must be received by Shipsurance within one hundred and twenty (120) days of the date of shipment.
- Shipments sent via the United States Postal Service (USPS)
- If the claim is for loss the Insured must wait 20 calendar days (Domestic shipments) or 40 calendar days (International shipments) before filing.
- A complete claim submission includes a Shipsurance claim form, a copy of the carrier's tracer form, a copy of the invoice or recent appraisal, photos of damaged goods and packaging, a repair estimate, and any other documentation requested by Shipsurance.
More Claim Details
Reporting
- In order to receive coverage, the Insured will provide Shipsurance with a monthly report of parcels shipped and requiring coverage .We must receive the alternate insurance report in our office no later than the fifth (5th) business day of the following month. Shipments sent via common carrier (Cargo/Freight) must be reported to Shipsurance no later than 24 hours after the shipment has departed the shipment origin.
